So many people come to me with unrealistic expectations of what they may get out of the divorce. For example, the father who wants full custody, but has a job which requires him to travel 3 weeks of the month. Or, the wife who wants permanent spousal maintenance, yet she is only 30 years old, has a master’s degree, and is fully capable of working full time.
My job as a lawyer is to be zealous advocate for my clients. I also believe that it is important for a family lawyer to set realistic expectations for the client. This can be especially true when it comes to how fast, or slow, the entire divorce process may take. Your attorney should take the time to fully explain the process and what steps will need to be taken along the way.
